Dave Moore joined our staff in late 2018 to become our new Museum Manager and Curator. A native of the Pocono Mountains, Dave holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in American History, and his Master’s Degree in Public History from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
In his professional career, Dave has worked with several different organizations across the northeast. He served as an intern, volunteer and part-time employee with the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall and Museum during his undergraduate career. While in Boston, he served as a tour guide and classroom program leader at the Commonwealth Museum at the Massachusetts State Archives. In 2014-15, Dave interned with the Senator John Heinz History Center where he helped develop the “We Can Do It! – World War II” exhibit. Since 2016, he has served as the Curator of Collections at Oakmont Country Club, where he has led public tours, catalogued their entire collection, wrote for their newsletter and created historic displays within the clubhouse.
Dave’s work at the Heritage Center has focused on the creation and renovations of our exhibits. As of the start of 2020, Dave has successfully renovated our Military, Sports and Church exhibits and has created two new exhibits: “The Presidents in McKeesport” and “Fifth Avenue: McKeesport’s Thriving Business District.” He will continue to renovate our other exhibits over the next year. Dave also creates and writes for our quarterly newsletter, and is responsible for the care and cataloguing of our collection.
Personally, Dave is an avid golfer and enjoys attending concerts with his wife, Kaitlyn. An avid reader, he enjoys reading anything related to military history, history of piracy, sports, and true crime. Dave is a diehard fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, and a supporter of the New York Yankees and Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club.
